Assignment the First.

And welcome to the blog, by the way!  : )

As per our discussion in class Friday, your first assignment is to read the first chapter in A Room with a View. PLEASE read it carefully, deliberately, and pay great attention to details. This novel is all about the details. One of the reasons I wanted you to have (and keep) this novel is so that you can write in it. Gloss it up. Underline, circle, highlight (maybe... pages are pretty thin!), write in the margins, whatever. When I glance around the room and see pages that are marked up, I'm a happy man. I'll have some notes for you on Monday, but please come to class with notes of your own -- specific spots in the text that you think are interesting, puzzling, funny, confusing, potentially important, etc. The more stuff you bring to the table, the more interesting and lively our discussion will be, and the more you'll enjoy the novel. Honestly. ; )
